Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my ability to balance multiple responsibilities while maintaining consistency, accuracy, and strong communication. Each day, I manage a wide range of tasks—including reports, emails, calls, CTRs, alerts, cash reports, and team meetings—and I approach every responsibility with focus and a commitment to doing things the right way. Staying organized, proactive, and adaptable has allowed me to excel in fast-paced environments and contribute effectively to my team.

Over the past seven years, I’ve built a career in banking that blends hands-on client service with growing expertise in compliance and risk management. I began as a Teller and Banker at Chase Bank, where I strengthened my skills in customer service, account management, cash handling, and relationship building. My transition to Cogent Bank allowed me to deepen my operational knowledge and further develop my experience in client support, problem-solving, and regulatory compliance.

Now, in my role as a BSA/AML Analyst at Cogent Bank, I continue to build on that foundation by applying my skills in transaction analysis, risk assessment, and BSA/AML compliance. I’m committed to supporting regulatory adherence and protecting the integrity of the bank. My success is rooted in my willingness to learn, my dedication to excellence, and my genuine passion for contributing to a safer and stronger financial system.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received came from my mentor, Debbie Bartley who was my Assistant Manager during my time at Chase Bank. She has been an incredible support system—someone I still speak with regularly and can always turn to for guidance, encouragement, or simply a listening ear. Her strength and perspective have always inspired me. What has stayed with me most is her advice to stay grounded, trust my abilities, and never be afraid to ask questions or seek help. She taught me that success isn’t about knowing everything—it’s about being willing to learn, staying consistent, and showing up every day with integrity and purpose. Her mentorship has played a meaningful role in my professional growth, and I carry her lessons with me as I continue to develop in my career. Alyssa mentions her determination and resilience often shows up due to her parents. Especially when it comes to managing her type one diabetes. She often reminds herself of all the lessons she’s been taught by both parents and is beyond thankful for her support system.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is simple: just go for it. Opportunities often come to those who are willing to take a chance and ask questions. If you don’t speak up, try, or put yourself forward, the answer will always be no. Confidence, curiosity, and a willingness to learn can open doors you never expected, and taking that first step is often the most important part of building a successful career in banking and compliance. Addition to all of this: remember to always advocate for yourself.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In both my professional and personal life, I value balance, wellness, and giving back to my community. Staying active through cardio, yoga, Pilates, and spin classes keeps me energized and focused, while exploring new experiences—like trying new restaurants, attending local events, traveling, or enjoying time at the beach—helps me stay curious and engaged. Volunteering is also a cornerstone of my life. I am passionate about supporting causes that matter to me, including advocating for Type 1 Diabetes awareness through Breakthrough T1D formerly known as JDRF— as I personally manage life with Type 1 Diabetes. These values—wellness, exploration, and service—guide the way I approach my career and my interactions with others. They remind me to stay grounded, give back, and approach every challenge with dedication and purpose.
