What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a blend of perseverance, lifelong learning, and a genuine passion for empowering others. My journey from HVAC technician to educator, with advanced degrees, has taught me the value of resilience, adaptability, and continuous professional growth. I have always sought to combine technical expertise with strong leadership principles, ensuring that my students and colleagues not only gain skills but also the confidence to apply them in real-world settings. Equally important, I credit my success to the mentors and professional networks that shaped my career, as well as my own commitment to mentoring and uplifting the next generation of professionals.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to never stop learning and growing, no matter how much experience you have. Early in my career, a mentor reminded me that technical skills open doors, but it’s adaptability, leadership, and a willingness to embrace new challenges that sustain long-term success. That advice guided me from the HVAC field into education, through multiple advanced degrees, and into pioneering roles where I can now inspire students to build their own futures. It taught me that success is not just about reaching milestones but about continuously expanding your impact.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to lead with confidence and allow your skills to demonstrate your value. I began my career as an HVAC mechanic in a traditionally male-dominated field, and I earned respect through consistent dedication, technical excellence, and a readiness to take on leadership opportunities. Remember, your expertise and work ethic will speak volumes—never hesitate to take your place at the table. You belong here, and your contributions are essential to shaping the future of the industry.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest challenges in the HVAC and technical education field is bridging the skills gap created by rapid technological advancement and an aging workforce. As new energy-efficient systems, smart technologies, and sustainability standards reshape the industry, there is an urgent need for highly trained professionals who can adapt to these innovations. At the same time, this challenge presents an incredible opportunity: through dual-enrollment programs, industry certifications, and hands-on training, we can prepare the next generation of technicians and business leaders to step confidently into high-demand careers. By aligning education with industry needs, we not only fill a critical workforce shortage but also empower students to become innovators and leaders in a field that directly impacts comfort, safety, and sustainability worldwide.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, balance, and connection. I believe in leading with honesty, consistency, and accountability—whether I am guiding students, collaborating with colleagues, or supporting my family. As a wife, mother of two, and proud dog owner, I cherish quality time and meaningful experiences, especially when traveling, enjoying the outdoors, or making memories together on family adventures. Staying grounded in these values allows me to bring my best self to both my career and personal life, creating fulfillment and impact in everything I do.
