Amy Curtis, Ph.D.
Amy Curtis, Ph.D., is a seasoned leader in the nonprofit sector, serving families and children across Texas for over 35 years. As the Senior Director of Counseling Services at Buckner International and Buckner Children and Family Services, she has extensive experience in program development, research, curriculum design for staff and clients, and clinical supervision of diverse teams. Amy is passionate about empowering families through a strength-based approach and has shared her expertise at national and international conferences on the impact of adversity and models of care that foster resilience and healing.
Amy earned her Master’s degree in Counseling and Community Development in 2009 and her Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy/Counseling in 2018, both from Texas Woman’s University. She is a Licensed Social Worker and a Dare to Lead™ Trained professional, reflecting her commitment to leadership, ethical practice, and lifelong learning in the mental health and family services field. In addition to her professional work, Amy contributes to her community through volunteer roles with the Mental Wellness Interfaith Alliance of North Texas and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services’ advisory committees.
Outside of her career, Amy values family, health, and personal growth. She is a devoted mother of two adult children and a proud grandmother, enjoys walking, hiking, gardening, reading, and puzzles, and cherishes time with her friends and church community. Her personal and professional life are united by a commitment to resilience, wellness, and meaningful connection with others.

I attribute my success to the unwavering support of my parents, my faith, my inner strength, and the guidance and encouragement of those who have assisted me along the way.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to always remember who I am and whose I am. This guidance keeps me grounded, focused, and aligned with my values in every professional decision I make.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women entering my industry to always stay true to themselves and their purpose. Focus your energy on environments where your contributions are valued, and don’t waste time trying to fix an organization that isn’t willing to change.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is working with clients who are stuck and resistant to moving forward. While it can be difficult, it also presents an opportunity to guide them with patience, insight, and creative solutions that help unlock progress and achieve meaningful results.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, authenticity, and kindness. I strive to act with honesty, stay true to myself, and treat others with compassion in every interaction.
