Assistant Dental Director
Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Phoenix, AZ 85003

Dr. Betzy Leyva, DMD, is a compassionate dental professional dedicated to serving underserved populations and promoting equitable access to oral healthcare. A proud graduate of Midwestern University’s College of Dental Medicine, Class of 2020, Dr. Leyva completed a one-year residency that further strengthened her clinical expertise and commitment to community service. Currently, she serves as the Assistant Dental Director at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Phoenix, Arizona, where she provides comprehensive care to low-income and uninsured patients, oversees clinical operations, and mentors dental residents and students.

Growing up in South Phoenix as a Mexican immigrant, Dr. Leyva’s journey to dentistry was shaped by resilience, hard work, and an unwavering desire to help others. Before becoming a dentist, she volunteered extensively at St. Vincent de Paul’s dental clinic, gaining firsthand experience in community-based care. She balanced her studies at Arizona State University with work as a dental assistant and evening classes—an experience that deepened her appreciation for perseverance and service. Her path reflects her belief that determination and education can open doors for those willing to put in the effort.

Today, Dr. Leyva continues to inspire others through her mentorship and leadership. She credits mentors like Dr. Ken Snyder for shaping her professional outlook and pays that guidance forward by mentoring two young girls through the Challenge Foundation. Deeply rooted in her community and driven by empathy, Dr. Leyva remains committed to improving lives through dentistry—one patient, one smile, and one opportunity at a time.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to stay focused and determined. Believe in yourself and your abilities—there’s nothing you can’t achieve when you put your mind to it.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are dedication, compassion, and lifelong learning. My educational journey—beginning at community college, continuing through courses at Arizona State University, earning my DMD from Midwestern University, and completing my residency at NYU Langone in Phoenix—taught me the value of perseverance and curiosity. Volunteering over 3,000 hours at a dental clinic before dental school reinforced my commitment to serving others with empathy and integrity. These experiences shaped my belief that growth, service, and genuine care are at the heart of meaningful work and a fulfilling life.
