Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my mentors and coaches. Over the years, I have attached myself to great and successful women. They have encouraged me, looked over my work and given me advice when needed. To this day, I still look to them for guidance on my journey.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice that I ever received was to be coachable, and when the time comes be willing to coach others. This may sound cliche, but be dependable. It’ll take you far. Be confident in what you do.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Young women in the banking industry, be approachable. While confidence is attractive, building relationships is just as important. Sometimes, it’s not about what you know but who you know. I’ve learned that the best compliment that someone could give you in this business is a referral. Own your voice, even if it shakes. Honor your commitments and own your mistakes with grace. This alone will build trust better than any resume can.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I see in my field is the generation gap. Millennials are slowly integrating into corporate roles. While a challenge, I still view this as an opportunity. To the young adults taking on those big roles, meet people where they are and be willing to listen. Be willing to learn from someone who isn’t the same age or in the same department as you. Be a sponge and take it all in. The best training and advice that I ever received were from people who’ve been on the job 10, 20, 30 plus years-long before I got there.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My faith is most important to me. I know people don't like to talk about religion on the job, but I take it with me everywhere I go. Quality time with family is something I value. They are daily reminder as to why I do what I do. I do it for them. Altruism is important to me and my work. Doing things for the good of others is rewarding. I wouldn't have made it this far in life without the help of others.
