Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to working hard despite being a woman and, most of all, a woman of color. It can be very challenging to see a woman—and especially a woman of color—achieve success, but I have persevered and stayed committed to my goals.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is that you can do anything you set your mind to. This advice resonated with me deeply, and I was proud to win the Esther Award in 2015 from my neighborhood community event, which reflected the power of dedication and focus.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

To young women entering the industry, I always say: just believe in yourself. Set your goals, work diligently, and watch as you check off each milestone and accomplishment along the way.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my industry has been being a successful woman and allowing myself to fully embrace and acknowledge my achievements. I have worked incredibly hard to reach this level of success, and learning to accept and celebrate it has been a journey.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value both my personal and professional life deeply. I absolutely love what I do, and my greatest achievement is the love and respect I receive from the residents I serve. In my downtime, I enjoy reading inspirational books such as The Alchemist and One Day My Soul Just Opened Up by Iyanla Vanzant.
