Mariela Tuero is a seasoned healthcare leader, strategist, and pharmacist with over 29 years of experience at Walgreens, where she currently serves as a District Manager. With a career spanning nearly three decades in the retail pharmacy and healthcare industry, she has led high-performing teams and implemented innovative strategies in disease management, clinical pharmacology, operations, and community outreach. Known for her dynamic leadership and passion for public health, Mariela has successfully guided multiple stores through transformational growth and operational excellence.
She holds a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from Nova Southeastern University and later earned her MBA with a focus in Business Administration and Management from the same institution. Her dual expertise in pharmacy and business has allowed her to bridge the gap between clinical care and corporate strategy, making her a respected voice in both healthcare and retail management spaces.

I attribute my success to hard work and pure dedication—not only to my patients, but also to consistently training and uplifting the teams I work with.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received was to stay with it and believe in my ability to achieve my goals—and I’ve been fortunate to have incredible mentors along the way, including Mario Hernandez, Mike Breeze, and Kristi Vargus, just to name a few.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the pharmacy industry is: you can absolutely be successful in this field—it's a deeply rewarding career where you have the opportunity to make a real difference in people's health and lives.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges—and opportunities—in the pharmacy field right now is staying consistently up to date with the rapid advancements in medicine, technology, and patient care practices.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are working hard, staying active in my community, and giving back—whether through healthcare or by offering free Bible study after work to support others spiritually.
