Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a 22-year career in the medical field that began with a biology degree from Illinois State University. My journey started in nuclear medicine and evolved into PET-CT imaging, where I specialized in pediatric protocols and patient care. After taking time off to raise my children, I returned to imaging before transitioning to the pharmaceutical industry—a move that allowed me to combine my clinical background with my passion for science. This path ultimately led me to dermatology clinical trials and later to my current role as a Medical Science Liaison at Biologic Pharma Solutions. Today, I focus on business development in oncology and radiopharmaceuticals. My work involves networking on LinkedIn, developing pitch materials, and pursuing new contracts while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team that includes a geneticist specializing in rare diseases. I also contribute to competitive intelligence and medical affairs initiatives. One of my proudest accomplishments was serving as the first author of a poster presented at a medical conference—a rewarding experience that affirmed the strength of clinical expertise, even without a doctoral degree. My success is also deeply rooted in the unwavering support of my family. My husband and mother have been incredibly accommodating of my career’s demands, from remote work to frequent travel. Outside of work, I stay active in professional organizations such as the Society of Nuclear and Molecular Imaging and enjoy spending time with my family, whether working out, cheering at my son’s hockey games, or relaxing on beach vacations.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received came from mentors who shaped every stage of my professional journey. Early in my career, Dr. Susan Reynolds, a pioneer in nuclear medicine, taught me the importance of precision and always putting the patient first. Later, during my transition into PET-CT imaging, Dr. James Patel encouraged me to take on complex cases and never hesitate to ask questions—a mindset that continues to guide me today. As I moved into the pharmaceutical industry, mentors like Maria Gonzalez reinforced the power of networking and strategic thinking, while Dr. Kevin Thompson emphasized the importance of balancing business development with scientific integrity. Their insights have been instrumental in helping me navigate career transitions and maintain a healthy work-life balance. I owe much of my professional growth to these mentors, and I’m committed to paying it forward by supporting and guiding the next generation of medical professionals—just as they once supported me.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to embrace curiosity, resilience, and relationships. Curiosity has been the driving force throughout my career—from nuclear medicine and PET-CT imaging to pharmaceutical business development. Always ask questions, seek to understand the “why” behind your work, and never stop learning from every experience. Resilience is equally essential. There were times when balancing family, travel, and career felt overwhelming, but staying adaptable and pushing through challenges created opportunities I never could have planned for. Growth often comes from the moments that test you the most. Finally, remember that relationships matter just as much as credentials. Mentorship, collaboration, and networking have been instrumental in my journey, and I make it a priority to support others just as I was supported. If I could leave you with one piece of advice, it would be this: invest in your knowledge, nurture your relationships, and trust your ability to adapt—you’ll be amazed at where it can take you.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Like any long career journey, my path in medical science and pharmaceuticals has been shaped by both challenges and opportunities. Transitioning from nuclear medicine to PET-CT imaging early in my career required adaptability and a willingness to master new technologies and patient care protocols. Taking time off to raise my children was another pivotal moment—returning to the workforce meant rebuilding professional momentum and keeping pace with a field that evolves at lightning speed. Entering the pharmaceutical industry brought new layers of complexity. Learning the business side—networking, business development, and competitive intelligence—pushed me far beyond my clinical comfort zone. Yet, those experiences expanded my perspective and helped me connect science with strategy. Balancing high-impact projects with family life remains an ongoing challenge, but it’s also where I’ve found the most growth. Each phase of my career has reinforced the importance of adaptability, lifelong learning, and leaning on a strong support system. In many ways, the challenges themselves have been the greatest opportunities.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me—both professionally and personally—are dedication, collaboration, family, service, and growth. I believe in giving my best to every project, whether it’s a clinical trial, a patient protocol, or a complex business development initiative. Dedication has been the foundation of my career, while collaboration has taught me the value of diverse perspectives. Working alongside geneticists, clinicians, and patient advocates has reinforced that the most meaningful progress comes from listening, learning, and working together toward a shared goal. Family is another cornerstone of my life. Their unwavering support has allowed me to pursue a demanding career while maintaining balance and perspective. Service is equally important to me—I’m proud to contribute to the Military Reunion Foundation, helping veterans reconnect with their communities and find renewed purpose. Finally, I deeply value growth and perseverance. Serving as the first author on a conference poster reminded me that hard work and hands-on experience can be just as impactful as formal credentials. For me, success isn’t just about achievement—it’s about continuous learning, integrity, and the people who inspire you along the way.
