Amanda DeWalt

Amanda DeWalt, CVP, is an accomplished venue and event professional with over 13 years of experience in event strategy, venue operations, and large-scale event execution. Currently serving as the Senior Manager of Convention Services at Houston First Corporation, Amanda leads the planning and delivery of major city-wide conventions and events, working closely with clients to ensure exceptional outcomes and high customer satisfaction. Her portfolio includes some of the industry’s most dynamic events such as the FIRST Championship, Dream Con, and the AAU Junior Olympic Games. She is also a dedicated mentor and program supervisor, managing Houston First’s Rising Stars Internship Program in partnership with the University of St. Thomas.
Known as a proactive collaborator and “meeting planner whisperer,” Amanda combines logistical precision with a passion for leadership and community impact. She has held diverse roles across Houston's premier venues, from managing performances at Jones Hall to overseeing international conventions at the George R. Brown Convention Center. A Certified Venue Professional through the International Association of Venue Managers, she actively contributes to the industry through committee work and advocacy. Amanda’s professional mission centers on service-driven leadership, continuous learning, and inspiring the next generation of event professionals.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to gain practical experience through volunteering and exploring different facets of the field early on, as this hands-on exposure can provide valuable insight and direction before committing to formal education.
