The Home Art of Hospitality.
Discovering the art of gracious living through hospitality, simplicity, and meaningful home decoration.
Hospitality is the act of nourishing one another. This takes root in our homes. Feeding family and enjoying the company of friends need not be expensive or burdensome, and it can remind us how good life can be. I hope that At Home Soigné can show that simplicity can bring pleasure and result in elegance.
I will be honest: simplicity is not always easy. It requires discipline, especially in today’s world of boxed meals and easy takeout orders. It requires skill and, most importantly, patience. Remembering that life is a great gift takes time for some. Once we discover how precious life is—once we become grateful for the gift of life—we can more effortlessly embrace the art of living.
For those who need encouragement in the home art of hospitality, At Home Soigné will help you learn how to do it.
Decorating: Why Beauty Matters
The beauty we create in our homes is not solely for decoration. It is also a quiet effort to preserve goodness, truth, and love that we may not always find in our day-to-day lives.
I have always wanted to create a home of my own for two reasons. First, to create a sanctuary—a safe place to truly be oneself. A place of comfort, a place of lasting joy not only for myself but also for my family and friends. Secondly, a home is a place to focus and live out one’s calling as a wife, mother, aunt, and friend.
One of those expressions is decorating. While decorating is enjoyable, it is also meaningful work. The way a woman decorates her home is often how she expresses herself and connects with her family. It allows her to feel grounded and helps establish identity.
I enjoy decorating with the seasons. Using fresh flowers from the farmers market or creating a cornucopia centerpiece helps one live in harmony with the seasonal bounty of the moment. I try to always decorate with meaning. When choosing wall art or displaying certain books, one should be reminded of the memories each item holds.
Decorate with stories. Decorate with meaning. The more your possessions reflect who you are, the more at home you will feel in a sanctuary filled with the aromas and rhythms of the seasons.
