Her Interview
Ten minutes with Gisela
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success is rooted in quiet resilience, clear purpose, and the daily discipline of my faith and affirmations. On challenging days, my affirmations allow me to reset my perspective, stay grounded, and maintain focus on the path I know was meant for me.
I live by a simple rule: your professional story is only as meaningful as the people you help write theirs. True success is never solitary. Across my career in the airline industry and healthcare, I’ve had the honor of helping over 1,500 individuals from all walks of life secure opportunities. But my best accomplishment yet is through Resume Journeys identifying talent, opening doors, and hearing candidates say, 'I just needed this chance, Gisela.'
For those who know me, a benchmark has never been a title. It is about thinking strategically outside the box, leading with integrity, and ensuring people are always supported. Over the last year, prioritizing my own well-being and personal transformation was the best decision I ever made. It gave me the freedom and clarity to keep empowering others. When you persevere with purpose, you don't just reach the top you bring an entire community with you."
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The most transformative advice I ever received was to stop viewing a career as a linear ladder and start seeing it as a fluid journey. We are often taught that a career must have a rigid beginning, middle, and end formatted in a perfect, predictable order. But in reality, the most impactful lives are often the ones where the chapters are shuffled.
There will be seasons where you are the student, seasons where you are the architect, and seasons where you must be the one to tear it all down and start fresh. You are not meant to worry about whether you are in the 'right' season; rather you are to know that whichever path you are taking has already been prepared ahead of your steps.
I have learned that when the order of your life doesn't match the 'standard' format, it isn't a sign of failure it’s a sign of a unique calling. The only true constant is that giving up is not an option. Whether you are in a gap or at a peak, you must keep moving, knowing that the 'scrambled' chapters are often the ones that create the most beautiful story. Your career isn't a document to be formatted; it’s a narrative to be lived."
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
To the young women entering the high-stakes worlds of Healthcare, HR, and Operations: You will face barriers designed to make you feel small. Realize early that you and only you are the architect of your journey.
We are often told that success is about power, but true success is about sovereignty. It is about total ownership of your narrative. In my career, I have mentored hundreds, and while I firmly believe in reaching back to lift others up, I also believe in the sanctity of boundaries.
Access to your wisdom, strategy, and network is a privilege, not a right. Be a bridge for those who are willing to put in the work, but ensure they bring their own ladder of integrity to the table. Don’t give away your energy to those without the accountability to handle it. When you lead with this balance of generosity and boundaries, you aren't just a leader you are a force that commands respect.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
In HR and workforce development, the biggest challenge we face is balancing technological advancement with genuine economic expansion. On one hand, we must help talent adapt to AI by focusing on the irreplaceable human strengths technology can't touch. On the other, we have a responsibility to actively create new jobs and career pipelines that power our broader economy. Overcoming this means building scalable platforms, uplifting underutilized talent, and proving that technological innovation and workforce growth can thrive together.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
At the core of my work and life are authenticity, respect, and independence. I believe everyone deserves to know their work has value, and I aim to strip away pretense to lead with real, grounded empathy. I will never forget a candidate telling me she chose my team because I spoke to her with genuine humanity and realism that feedback remains my gold standard.
As a leader, I serve as an anchor. When my team is overwhelmed or challenged by manpower, I step in and take on responsibilities directly, because no operational task should ever be 'beneath' a leader to guide and support. I champion work-life balance as a necessity that keeps us human, adapt quickly to change, and show up as my true self every day. Having the autonomy to make intentional choices drives my growth, grounded in the belief that when you respect people as individuals, extraordinary results follow.
