Abbie Watts is the Director of Business Development, Medical at Piezo Technologies, where she leverages her unique combination of technical expertise and business acumen to bridge scientific innovation with commercial success. With an MBA from the University of Sydney, completed with Distinction, Abbie has a proven track record of developing and executing value creation strategies, optimizing cross-functional processes, and fostering strategic partnerships that accelerate growth in fast-paced medical and biotechnology markets. She is deeply committed to driving the advancement of therapeutic ultrasound and non-invasive medical technologies that have the potential to transform patient care.
Before joining Piezo Technologies, Abbie held leadership roles in business development and sales across healthcare and biotech sectors, including at the Boston Institute of Biotechnology and Milliken & Company. She has co-founded initiatives focused on social impact and gender-balanced global innovation, demonstrating a dedication to inclusive leadership and strategic collaboration. Her professional experience is complemented by a strong foundation in research, holding a Bachelor of Science in Biology with distinction from Syracuse University, where her work on molecular protein functions contributed to a greater understanding of cellular resistance mechanisms.
Outside of her professional work, Abbie is an avid reader and enjoys spending time outdoors, including walking, hiking, and working on home landscaping and gardening projects. She practices Pilates and yoga to maintain balance and wellness and values opportunities to engage with global communities through mentoring and advisory roles. What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being self-motivated and learning from the incredible role models in my life, including my dad and my former manager, Julie Gatto. I also make it a point to surround myself with people who challenge me and are smarter than I am, which continually pushes me to grow and improve.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to keep going, seek out what truly fulfills me, and continually challenge myself within that field.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women entering my industry to make sure their voice is present and heard. Learn to know when to speak and when to listen, and always stay visible.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in my field right now is prioritizing the most important tasks that need to be completed on time while simultaneously juggling multiple responsibilities and meeting service level expectations for clients.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are trust, transparency, independence, and dedication.
