Abigail Lloyd is a multidisciplinary artist, author, and illustrator with a passion for storytelling through visual and written mediums. She is the co-founder and illustrator at Toadstool Books, a children’s publishing company dedicated to making literacy engaging and fun. Since 2025, Abigail has collaborated with her sister to bring imaginative stories like Alphabet Hide and Seek and Bug Stew to life, while also developing new projects aimed at young readers. Her creative work spans illustration, book design, and project management, reflecting her dedication to both artistry and the publishing process.

In addition to her work in children’s literature, Abigail is an accomplished author, having published a novel, Those Aren’t Real Lemons, and three poetry collections: A Deception Garden, LIMINAL, and Eulogies, in Legacy, Starting. She continues to expand her literary reach through broader distribution efforts, including IngramSpark and hardback editions with custom book jackets. Her storytelling often explores themes of family dynamics, personal growth, and the human experience, blending her background in art and counseling to create works that are both visually and emotionally resonant.

Abigail’s foundation in art and education began at the University of Arkansas, where she earned a BFA in Art Education with a concentration in sculpture and painting. She later pursued a Master’s in Professional Counseling at Amridge University, which has informed both her creative practice and her approach to working with young readers and writers. Inspired by her family’s history in education and mentorship from influential teachers, Abigail’s work reflects a lifelong commitment to creativity, learning, and making literature accessible and meaningful to audiences of all ages.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of my educational background and a commitment to continuous learning. I earned my degree in Art Education from the University of Arkansas, focusing on sculpture and painting, which helped me develop creativity and discipline. Later, I pursued a master’s degree in Counseling to deepen my understanding of people and enhance my communication skills. I am also proud to be a member of the National Oil Painting Society and the American Counseling Association, which have allowed me to connect with professionals in both the arts and counseling fields.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are service, community, and making a meaningful impact. I actively live these values through my involvement with several nonprofit organizations, including Atlanta Inner City Ministry, Intersection in Northwest Arkansas, and the Cave of a Dulum, where I strive to support and uplift those in need.
