Her Interview
Ten minutes with Abigail
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the people surrounding me. My mom is a hustler in the nonprofit world. I have amazing women in my corner - my manager, my RVP, my coworkers, my mom, my book friends. These female-led people really lift us when we need to.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is to prioritize mental health. My manager emphasizes taking a deep breath and not putting your health over the job. You can't fill someone else's cup if your cup is empty. It's important to take care of yourself.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women entering the field that it's not that serious. We're not in a life-or-death job. We put so much pressure on ourselves to be the best. Focus on mental health and work-life balance. Leave it at the door and come back to it tomorrow. Know that you can take care of yourself.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is the economy. People are not wanting to spend money on marketing, so we can't close deals. Budgets are capped. Another challenge is being a woman in a male-dominated field where all the bosses and CEOs are men. Opportunities include meeting cool CEOs, workforce people, artists, and musicians.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Empathy is always going to be big because it translates to the work environment when you can relate to someone. Creativity is huge - I like to think things outside the box. Workplace culture and relationships are important. I want to enjoy going to work every day and be friends with my coworkers in a competitive but positive environment.
