Her Story

About Abinaya

I started my journey in India, Chennai, where I completed my undergraduate degree. My career really began when I flew from India to Boston to pursue my Master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boston University - that was the stepping stone for my whole career path. While in Boston, I worked at NVIDIA for an internship for 3 months, which gave me valuable industry experience. After completing my master's in 2023, I received my job offer at NXP as a Design Verification Engineer in the semiconductor field. I packed my bags again, this time from Boston to Austin, and I've been settled here for almost three and a half years now. Beyond my day job, I'm deeply committed to giving back to the community. I founded Silicon TV, a non-profit platform dedicated to helping fresh graduates and newcomers to the field. Through this platform, I write blogs and provide interview materials so people can learn what design verification engineers actually do. I'm also active on LinkedIn with around 11,000 followers, where I regularly post to inspire and support others. My field is very niche - core electrical engineering - and women in our field are very rare. I've seen many women drop off at various stages, finding it difficult to manage, so I want to show the community that you can do it and it's not as hard as anybody might think.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I want to bring to the community that you can do it, and it's not as hard as anybody can think. My field is very niche - core electrical engineering - and especially women in our field are very rare. I've seen so many women who come into our field not fulfilling the path. They're just dropping off at any of the stages, finding it difficult to manage. So I just want to give back to the community so that people have the confidence to come into the field and achieve what they want, and not choose a regular path like software engineering or data engineering. I'm already doing this on LinkedIn where I'm posting and people are following me - I have around 11,000 followers. Through my platform Silicon TV, I provide resources and interview materials so people can learn what design verification engineers do and feel supported in entering this field.
