About Addie

Addie Griffin has been active in the education industry since the early 2000s, bringing roughly 20 years of experience to her role as a paraprofessional within the school system. In addition to her current position, she has performed guidance counseling work and holds a degree in that area. Griffin has worked extensively in special education, providing hands-on support to students with diverse needs, including those who are learning delayed, autistic, or require assistance with daily tasks and behavioral support. Her responsibilities include conducting trials and data collection, teaching lessons, and accompanying students to classes such as music, art, and physical education, as well as facilitating transitions to general education settings when appropriate. She is currently enrolled in the Parents to Professional Teachers program with the aim of becoming a certified special education teacher. Griffin advises those entering the field to thoroughly research the profession, administrative structures, and workloads to better understand expectations.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Kind of research the field, know what you're going into, and also research the administration, how it works. And, you know, the politics of the administration and things like that. The workloads you get, because that's one of the things that teachers complain about, the workloads, what they're expected to do.
