Her Interview
Ten minutes with Adebola
01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Knowing what I do not want to do helps narrow options. Taking chances even without full knowledge or expertise, as stepping into the AOL IT controls role with zero IT experience led to success. Being open to non-linear paths and diverse experiences builds skills that attract opportunities.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be open to learning a whole lot in accounting and finance without limiting to one thing. Diverse skill sets are better than linear roles. Take chances, expand skills continuously, and the right opportunities will find you. Being someone people want to work with is more valuable than being the most knowledgeable.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges: Retiring CPAs, low exam pass rates, barriers to CPA licensure, and AI adoption fears with lack of regulations. Opportunities: Leveraging AI for efficiency, supporting entrepreneurs with accounting/finance needs, and helping regular people and small businesses with budgeting and business planning.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Giving back through scholarships and mentoring the next generation. Making people's lives easier as a collaborator and problem solver. Maintaining work-life balance by taking breaks to travel and help others, which led to starting the personal budgeting business.
