Her Story

About Adriana

Adriana Campos Vargas is a senior international trade and logistics executive with more than 16 years of experience across multiple areas of the global supply chain, including customs, procurement, operations, sales, and business development. This cross-functional exposure has allowed her to develop a comprehensive understanding of the industry, which has become a defining strength in her role as Business & Supplier Specialist, where she has gained a broader, end-to-end perspective of the business.

She specializes in international logistics for perishable goods, with deep expertise in cold chain operations, customer service, and supply chain strategy across maritime, air, and land transportation. She has built a dynamic career leading complex commercial operations and driving growth while supporting high-value client relationships and market expansion.

Her professional journey reflects resilience, independence, and continuous growth in a fast-paced, operational, and historically male-dominated industry. A key turning point in her career came when, during a long-term career planning conversation, she expressed her ambition to lead the commercial function of a U.S. operation. In December 2021, she was selected by the organization to take on that challenge, relocating to the United States to help establish and develop the operation from the ground up.

A defining milestone in her journey was obtaining her work visa, a rigorous process that recognized her professional contributions and future impact in the U.S. market. Today, as Head of Sales at UCC America, she leads commercial strategy, manages key global accounts, oversees budget performance, and contributes directly to the U.S. branch P&L while working closely with teams across the Americas and global markets.

Outside of her executive role, Adriana has a strong background in classical singing, which she studied extensively over the years. She continues to develop this discipline through ongoing vocal training. Her artistic background brings a unique dimension to her leadership style, strengthening her discipline, creativity, and emotional intelligence, which she integrates into her professional approach to logistics and business development.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Adriana

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to resilience and adaptability, especially through navigating international transitions and building my career across different countries and markets. A strong sense of self-awareness and mental discipline has also been essential in helping me stay focused, grounded, and consistent in high-pressure environments.

In addition, my ability to build meaningful relationships across cultures and markets has played a key role in my growth and effectiveness as a global leader.

I place great importance on maintaining a strong and balanced mental state, not only as a personal priority but as a professional foundation. In the business world, you are constantly exposed to different people, perspectives, and complex situations. Having a well-developed sense of self and emotional awareness allows you to navigate these dynamics with clarity, make better decisions, and build relationships that are not only effective but also sustainable over time.

I believe that sustained success comes from both performance and well-being.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received comes down to a few principles that have stayed with me over time.

First, listen more than you speak. In business, understanding people, context, and timing is often more valuable than having immediate answers.

Second, take every opportunity seriously. Everything you learn and experience becomes part of you. Your career is something you build over time, and no one can take that away from you.

And finally, never close doors. This is a relationship-driven industry, and how you show up in every interaction matters. Even in challenging situations, maintaining professionalism and perspective allows you to build trust and keep opportunities open in the long run.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The first thing I would tell them is to take their mental health seriously, not as a secondary priority, but as a foundation.

We are still operating in a world and in an industry that has historically been shaped by men. That is simply the context we navigate. And within that context, women often grow up with very defined ideas of how they should look, act, and perform in order to be accepted or considered enough.

My advice would be to consciously unlearn those expectations. At some point, it becomes essential to question what has been imposed and reconnect with your own sense of identity, values, and direction. Because if you are constantly trying to meet external standards, it will never feel like enough. This is where mental health and self-awareness become critical. The more grounded and connected you are with yourself, the better decisions you will make, not from pressure or comparison, but from clarity.

That is what allows you to navigate challenges, build strong, lasting relationships, and ultimately create a career that is not only successful but also aligned with who you truly are.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In my field, one of the biggest challenges today is the speed at which everything evolves. Logistics is no longer just about execution; it requires the ability to constantly read the environment, anticipate shifts, and make decisions in real time.

We operate in a context where business dynamics, market conditions, and broader global factors are continually changing. Information moves fast, expectations change quickly, and what worked before does not always apply in the same way today. This requires a mindset that is not only operationally strong but also flexible and open to questioning established ways of working.

At the same time, I see a significant opportunity in how leadership is evolving within the industry. There is a growing need for more conscious, adaptable, and people-centered approaches to managing teams, relationships, and business decisions.

Those who understand both the operational complexity of the business and the human dynamics behind it will be better positioned to build stronger relationships, make better decisions, and drive sustainable growth. Overall, I see logistics as an industry that is becoming more demanding, but also more open to new ways of thinking, for those willing to evolve with it.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my professional and personal life are self-awareness, integrity, and inner clarity. Throughout my career, I have learned that the ability to understand yourself is what allows you to navigate complex environments, make better decisions, and build strong, sustainable relationships. In a fast-moving and often demanding industry, staying grounded in who you are becomes a real advantage. I also deeply value resilience and independence, not only as a way to move forward, but as a way to take ownership of my path and the decisions I make. This has allowed me to adapt across different markets, cultures, and challenges while maintaining a clear sense of direction.

Equally important to me is the quality of the relationships I build. I believe that long-term success is driven not only by performance but also by trust, consistency, and the ability to build meaningful connections over time. Above all, I prioritize authenticity. For me, success is not only about achieving results but also about doing so in a way that aligns with who I am, leading with clarity, intention, and purpose.
