What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to faith and resilience. Every step I took, there was a plank for me to stand on - it's hard to put into words, but these inspiring individuals gave me a chance, listened to me, whether it was a great boss, a great CEO, someone who put their hands on me, and it just kept showing up. My career journey was shaped by the strong women in my family, and my mom was my greatest champion and cheerleader. Failure was never an option to me. I knew the life that I wanted, I scripted that life, and that life happened for me. My education was being a single mom and having to make it happen and show up every day for my cute little babies. It was the School of Hard Knocks, education, support, and the will to keep going, even in the darkest days. You've got to keep your circle tight and right. What really matters is asking yourself what you're meant to do next, because the journey forces you to ask that question. For me, it's faith and resilience, and most of all, grace.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Sometimes you gotta jump and the net will appear - you just have to trust. I used to tell my kids this all the time, and I live by it. I also live by a quote about Mother Teresa. Someone told her she had so much clarity, and she said it's not clarity, it's faith. She said she never had clarity, she had faith. That was a mic drop moment for me - boom. That's what it's about, that relentless faith.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I'm very passionate about introducing technology to women, especially brown and black women who make up only 3% or less of the tech workforce. What I want people to understand is that AI is not about replacing humans - we have a space. AI is really helping humans become more creative, more effective, efficient, and more influential. If we can remember that, boom, that's the key. Yes, there are going to be jobs lost, but change has always been happening. Technology's always been moving quickly, and the key is going to be to understand how to leverage it and how to empower yourself creatively and make an impact if you want. It's an evolution. The key is helping people realize that they're not late. You're not late. Technology's moving quickly, but it's always been moving quickly. I believe in being multifaceted - I don't have to be one thing. Normal is boring - I do not want to be normal. Ride this wave like a boss.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is that AI and companies are leading with fear, and what I want people to understand is that AI is not about replacing humans. There's so much fear out there about AI. I'm finding that people feel like they're being left behind. I ask clients, is AI helping or hindering your business? And what I find is that more education and knowledge is needed because a lot of companies are implementing AI but they don't understand that we are between maybe three worlds - Gen Z, Gen X, Millennials - everybody from those that didn't have it growing up to those that started out with it. Companies have to implement the education part of things. The opportunity is that we're living in an industry where we have the technology and capability to master all of this and be expert at so many things with less than 20% investment. You don't even have to spend years learning. But the other side of that is the education piece - we need to help people understand how to use AI strategically, not just as a tool. AI is almost like the stock market - it changes every 12 to 18 hours. There's a new AI app opening constantly. The key is understanding how to leverage it to amplify your voice and scale your expertise in a way we've never been able to do before.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are love, grace, forgiveness, and gratitude. Even in the tech space, I lead with love. Since losing my mom, I'm on this spiritual journey of higher vibration. My focus right now is energy, meditation, sound therapy, and really being in a place of gratitude and forgiveness - that is my practice. I've been able to identify some trauma and patterns through this reinvention, and through that healing, it's been through meditation, sound therapy, and just really being in a place of gratitude and forgiveness. It's all about grace and forgiveness and trust. Faith and resilience are core to who I am - that's how I came up with Graceful Reinvention. I'm going to forgive myself, I'm going to give myself grace, I'm going to heal from those decisions that I made, because they were all my decisions. Graceful Reinvention was born out of that. I'm able to be a role model even though my children are grown, and I'm able to stop the generational trauma. I was a fixer, and being the fixer brought me a lot of pain. I don't fix anything anymore. My hobbies are meditation, sound therapy, healing through faith and resilience, and most of all, grace, which has allowed me to be a role model.
