About Adrienne
Adrienne Porter is a commercial leader with more than 15 years of experience helping consumer brands grow through business development, shopper marketing, strategic customer partnerships, and data-informed strategy. Her career took shape after relocating from Denver back to her home state of Kansas, where she joined Hill’s Pet Nutrition as an administrative assistant and steadily advanced through a variety of roles across the organization, including territory management, digital education, shopper marketing, and business development. This cross-functional journey has given her a broad understanding of the business and a unique ability to connect perspectives across teams and customers, with relationship building—both with external retail partners and internal teams—at the core of how she works.
Throughout her career in the pet nutrition industry, Adrienne has partnered with national and specialty retailers to build long-term growth strategies and deliver measurable business results. Some of her proudest achievements include recognition and awards received directly from top customers, reflecting the trusted relationships and value she brings to her partnerships. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baker University and has continued to build her expertise through ongoing learning and participation in Hill’s AI Champions Network.
Adrienne credits much of her professional growth to colleagues who mentored her, advocated for her visibility, and gave her the autonomy to lead with her own expertise. Those experiences shaped her belief in the importance of mentoring others and advocating for one’s own career path. Outside of her professional life, Adrienne is guided by values of trust, authenticity, kindness, and inclusiveness, principles that extend into her volunteer work in her community. She is an avid history enthusiast and cherishes time spent with her family, friends, and her 16-year-old Boxer dog Coco.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Adrienne
01What do you attribute your success to?
I've been fortunate to have leaders who believed in me, championed me, and created opportunities for me to grow. They gave me the visibility and support to succeed while trusting me to bring my own expertise and perspective to the table. That experience taught me the importance of paying it forward, while also recognizing that we're ultimately responsible for our own careers. The most rewarding opportunities often come when preparation, initiative, and strong advocates come together.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received—and seen proven throughout my career—is to invest in people. Experience and expertise are important, but integrity, kindness, reliability, and follow-through are what build trust, lasting relationships, and enduring success.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Stay curious, embrace opportunities outside your comfort zone, and don't feel pressured to follow a traditional career path. Some of the most valuable lessons come from experiences you never planned for. Every role, every project, and every cross-functional partnership adds another piece to your understanding of the business. You don't have to be the expert in every room, but a broad perspective allows you to contribute strategically, ask better questions, and build stronger solutions. In today's business environment, adaptability and a willingness to keep learning are just as valuable as deep expertise.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities for large consumer brands is increasing organizational agility. As companies grow, thoughtful cross-functional collaboration and alignment naturally become more complex. The challenge isn't recognizing opportunities or having the desire to pursue them—it's being able to align, make decisions, and execute while the opportunity still has momentum.
To me, innovation isn't defined by introducing the next product. It's about understanding consumers deeply enough to identify unmet needs and create solutions that make their lives easier, solve problems they didn't know could be solved, or deliver value in unexpected ways. Sometimes that means launching a new product. Other times it means responding authentically to changing consumer behaviors or cultural moments in ways that strengthen trust and relevance.
In today's environment, timing has become part of innovation itself. The organizations that can align quickly, respond thoughtfully, and execute with purpose will be best positioned to build meaningful connections with consumers and drive sustainable growth.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Trust is the foundation of every meaningful relationship, both professionally and personally. I value integrity, respect, authenticity, and kindness, and I believe trust is earned through consistent actions— following through on your commitments, having empathy, and treating people with dignity and respect. Whether leading a project, building a partnership, or interacting with colleagues and friends, I strive to leave people with confidence that I'll be honest, dependable, and respectful.
