What do you attribute your success to?
I would definitely say God comes first, as I am a woman of faith. I also credit my parents, my upbringing, and my community. They’ve been the foundation for everything I’ve been able to accomplish.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to keep an open mind. Networking is important, but staying open to new possibilities matters just as much. You have to be willing to try something different and consider paths you may not have initially imagined for yourself.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say to keep going. All it takes is one yes. Don’t let rejections or setbacks discourage you. Keep pushing forward, because that one opportunity and that one person who recognizes your potential can change everything.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest opportunity in my field right now is its constant evolution, which creates endless chances to learn. With AI reshaping workflows and social media transforming how information is shared, communication is becoming even more critical. These shifts offer exciting opportunities to grow and adapt.
At the same time, they come with challenges. Staying current requires time and intentional learning, and with heavy workloads, finding that time can be difficult. Another challenge I face personally is being boxed in by others’ assumptions. Because my PhD is in what many consider a traditional scientific discipline, people often expect me to stay in R&D or bench science. But my career has moved in a different direction, and it can be difficult to be recognized as an expert in this new space.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My core values show up in both my work and personal life. I strive to do my best in everything I take on and to communicate early and effectively. I believe deeply in honesty, empathy, and understanding. These values guide how I interact with colleagues, clients, and loved ones, and they’re fundamental to who I am.
