Her Story
About Afiya
Afiya Ricks entered financial services in 1998 after graduating from Smith College with degrees in psychology and biology. Her initial role in advertising did not provide sufficient income, leading her to pursue opportunities in finance following a networking event with a Smith College alumna. She spent many years working on Wall Street before leaving corporate employment a decade ago to establish her own business, TFS Investments. In her practice, Ricks educates middle-income families and first-generation wealth holders on money management, develops and implements financial plans, and holds the necessary licenses to execute these services. She also trains individuals seeking career changes or supplemental income to obtain their licenses and educate others on financial basics. Ricks emphasizes helping women build financial knowledge, drawing from her own experiences navigating a male-dominated industry.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Get a mentor. Be very aggressive about it. A mentor doesn't have to be someone that you physically meet with. Find someone whose life you want and follow in their footsteps.
