She earned a bachelor's degree in architecture in India and a master's degree in building science from the USC School of Architecture. Balagopal has won a Toastmasters award and maintains contact with the Dyslexia Association of Georgia. Her professional values center on sincerity, open communication, and focusing energy on solutions rather than blame.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Aishwarya

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from my husband who has pushed me beyond my boundaries and given me space and freedom to grow. My kids and family are my inspiration. They encouraged me to change careers when architecture no longer fulfilled me and to pursue what I value most.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received from my husband is to focus on yourself and not let the company or job design your life. Do what you are passionate about, what you enjoy and love, and only as much as you enjoy it. Your life is only one, so design it yourself rather than letting your job define you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Stand up for what you think is right, whether for yourself or others. At your workplace, if you think something needs to be done a certain way and people are not convinced, go ahead and do it yourself. Don't wait for anyone to get it done for you.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Sincerity is the most important value. Be honest with your team and yourself. If you can meet a deadline, fine, but communicate issues early rather than misleading others. Focus energy on fixing problems instead of assigning blame.
