Her Story

About Aja

Aja L. Butler is a human resources professional and workplace experience consultant who serves as a Human Resources Analyst in the Leave and Accommodation Services section of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety. In her role, she manages documentation and employee support related to FMLA leave, ADA accommodations, and workers’ compensation across approximately seven agencies serving more than 3,000 employees. Her responsibilities require careful attention to compliance, confidentiality, accuracy, and communication, while ensuring employees receive appropriate guidance and support throughout their leave and accommodation processes. With more than two decades of customer service experience, Butler brings a people-centered approach to human resources and is passionate about creating positive and effective workplace experiences.

Before joining the Louisiana Department of Public Safety, Butler spent nearly a year with the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, where she served in administrative coordinator and intake roles supporting child support enforcement. She also spent nearly eight years with the Louisiana Lottery Corporation, building valuable experience in sales support and facilities coordination before transitioning into state government and human resources. Throughout her career, Butler has demonstrated professionalism, reliability, adaptability, and a willingness to take on new challenges. She holds a technical diploma in massage therapy, which has allowed her to explore her interest in holistic wellness, as well as a certificate in mortgage processing. She plans to pursue a mortgage loan origination license, with the goal of using her knowledge to help others achieve homeownership.

In addition to her professional career, Butler is the Founder of A. Butler Workplace Consulting, where she helps organizations strengthen workplace culture, professionalism, communication, and employee and customer experiences. Her consulting work reflects her belief that strong workplaces require structure, consistency, and intentional attention to how people experience an organization. Butler attributes her success and ability to navigate career transitions—including a layoff from the Louisiana Lottery Corporation—to her faith, which has remained a source of strength and guidance. She values authenticity and transparency and believes in showing up as herself, speaking up, and remaining true to her principles. Through both her HR career and entrepreneurial work, Butler is committed to helping people and organizations grow while creating workplaces where individuals feel respected, supported, and valued.
