Her Interview

Ten minutes with Akosua

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say it's my commitment to the people. I love the environment and want to see real change happen, but I also see the people affected by climate change and environmental justice issues. I stay connected with the people and work closely with them every day. Having that human connection is what really drives me.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be discouraged. Be excited because the technology is there and the people are there to support the work. It's a great space to be in when you live in a world of hope. Stay committed. Know that you're in the right space at the right time. And stay the course.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is funding. We based our work off the Biden administration's Economic Justice 40 Initiative but that has changed with the new administration, making it difficult. On the opportunity side, there's a big push for alternative energy sources like solar panels, wind turbines, and electrification of homes, and we're headed incrementally in the right direction with more people making connections and changes.
