Her Interview
Ten minutes with Alejandra
01What do you attribute your success to?
My family has given so much for me, so I take every opportunity that comes my way. When my professor proposed the Washington internship, it was a no-brainer.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Do not compare yourself to others because comparison can be really unmotivating when starting out. Focus on yourself and your own plans instead of what everyone else is doing.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Do not let anyone discourage you. Be loud, make your voice heard, and try until you get your foot in the door. Do not give up.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
There is a lot of mistrust growing in the media, creating hostility when trying to get interviews. This is also an opportunity to show the type of work we are doing and regain trust in the media.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty and getting the best version of the truth out there. Double-check every source and story to ensure everything is coming from an honest place and is as close to the truth as possible.
