Her Story

About Alejandra

I've been working as a freelance model and fitness influencer for about 5 years now. I do photo shoots and runway for different designers, but I'm not contracted with anyone - I work completely independently. What I'm really focused on is building my followers and doing fitness influencing while modeling, so I'm doing a couple of things at the same time that all relate to a healthy lifestyle that I follow. Before this, years ago when my son was younger, I was a single mom, so I was basically working office jobs and home health care. I also did online sales, a little bit of everything, because I was a single parent, so I had to put my dreams and my career on hold just to basically survive and maintain. Now my kids are grown and I have a more stable situation, so I'm going for 100%, I'm going all in. My main areas are runway - I'm doing really good - and fitness influencing. A typical day for me includes doing a lot of content from home, sometimes scheduled photoshoots in studios or outdoors, and right now with Miami Swim Week, there's been a lot of castings and I already have 2 shows lined up. My daily routine is basically doing content at home showing my healthy lifestyle, and I also take care of my youngest son who is on the autism spectrum. So besides content creating, working out, and modeling, I'm with my family.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

What I would say is that this is something that you really have to want. You're gonna have some yeses, you're gonna have some nos, and you can't take it personal, because this is just part of it. So not quitting. It's just working behind the scenes, and just saying, I did this. I tell myself all the time, you know, oh, I didn't get casted for this, but I showed up for me. You gotta show up for yourself, and even if you feel that you didn't get casted, or you really wanted something and it didn't work out, but you met people, you made connections, something good came out of every time you did something for yourself, and you pulled through.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I am not concerned, I am very proud of my age, but it is a very competitive industry, and there's women that are younger, and I feel that they have more time to take their time. So me, I'm more like I gotta get this, I gotta go out there, I gotta work double or triple, because they have that extra time. I feel like, yes, now the industry is accepting all types of ages, body shapes, and all that, but at the same time, it's challenging because now I'm at an age that I'm like, I need to get myself up there, I need to hurry up. It's God's timing, you know, we can't rush it, but yeah, that's what I feel is the most, the hardest - just going out there and knowing that I don't have time, I can't take my sweet time. I can't just be like it's a hobby, it's not.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I'm usually the type that I'm like, no, I'm in competition with me, being a better version of myself. I'm not out there trying to compete with somebody else. I like to uplift other people. Unfortunately, not everyone is like that, but I like to be like that. I like to uplift other people, I like to give them their flowers, I like to tell them, oh, you did great, you look great, oh, that was awesome. I am that type of person. I feel that at this age, you're not, like, in your 20s, that you compare yourself to other people, that you feel insecure. I feel like I'm really not comparing myself to anyone, I'm just being a better version every day of myself, and that's what I'm working on. The best thing is to do something that you love, that makes you happy, and you can make a living out of it. That's your main purpose.
