Her Story

About Alesha

She is a healthcare administration and patient services professional with experience across medical, dental, and health insurance settings. She currently works as a Customer Service Representative at Blue Shield of California, handling behavioral health claims, benefits, reimbursement issues, and HIPAA-compliant documentation, while also serving as a New Patient Coordinator in a digestive disease practice, managing referrals, insurance verification, EHR records, and patient onboarding. Her earlier roles in dental administration and office support further developed her skills in patient coordination, insurance processing, medical records, customer service, and healthcare operations. She holds a Certificate in Medical Office Administration from San Joaquin Valley College.

Originally from Northern California, she later moved to Southern California, where she continued to pursue her passion for healthcare and grow her career in the medical field. Her professional journey reflects her dedication to helping others and her commitment to continuing to learn, grow, and create opportunities for herself.

Her journey, however, has extended far beyond her career. She is a cancer survivor, and navigating that chapter of her life became one of the greatest tests of her strength and resilience. Through it all, she continued to move forward, returning to her career and pursuing the life she worked hard to build.

Today, she carries those experiences with her as a reminder that setbacks do not have to define your future. She hopes her story encourages other women to believe in themselves, continue pursuing their dreams, and recognize their own strength—even during the moments when life feels the hardest.

Ten minutes with Alesha

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my determination, hard work, and not giving up when things get difficult. I’ve learned from my experiences, stayed focused on my goals, and continued to push myself to grow and become better

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to never stop learning and to always believe in yourself. Even when something is difficult, keep going, ask questions, and use every experience as an opportunity to grow.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice would be to believe in yourself, don’t be afraid to speak up, and never be afraid to ask questions. You don’t have to know everything when you’re starting out. Keep learning, work hard, and remember that you belong in the industry just as much as anyone else.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges is keeping up with changes in technology and continuing to learn new skills. I also see that as a great opportunity because there are always new things to learn and ways to grow. I think being willing to adapt and continue learning can really help you succeed in this field.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are family, honesty, respect, hard work, and compassion. Family is especially important to me because they motivate me to work hard and be the best version of myself. In both my work and personal life, I believe in being dependable, treating people with respect, and always doing my best.
