About Alexa
Alexa Burns is a technology and supply chain consultant with three years of consulting experience, specializing in SAP implementations and supplier enablement strategies. She began her professional career at PwC after graduating from Penn State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Supply Chain and Information Systems, with minors in Information Science and Technology and International Business. Her early career was shaped by internships with IBM, where she gained hands-on experience in supply chain operations, process improvement, analytics, and technology. At PwC, she has supported clients through SAP implementations and supplier onboarding initiatives, including developing an AI-powered dashboard to analyze supplier data and prioritize enablement efforts. Ms. Burns combines supply chain expertise with a strong interest in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. As an AI Champion, she is passionate about finding practical ways to use AI to transform jobs rather than replace them, helping professionals work more efficiently while creating greater opportunities for human judgment, creativity, and strategic thinking.
Her experience also extends beyond client engagements through pro bono consulting projects and community involvement, including teaching coding to children in Manhattan schools. She values the flexibility, collaboration, and people-focused nature of consulting and believes that technology can be most impactful when paired with strong relationships and thoughtful problem-solving. Ms. Burns attributes her success to the mentors who have supported and challenged her throughout her career. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to the mentors who have supported and guided me throughout my career. The people I have encountered along the way have played a significant role in shaping my growth, helping me develop my skills, build confidence, and become the professional I am today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to always stay hungry, remain curious, and continuously look for opportunities to grow. I believe in thinking outside the box, challenging myself to go beyond what is expected, and consistently looking for ways to contribute more and make a meaningful impact.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to stay curious, be observant, and absorb as much knowledge as possible from the people and experiences around you. Always remain hungry for growth, think outside the box, and look for opportunities to go above and beyond what is expected. By being proactive, continuously learning, and challenging yourself to do more, you can build a strong foundation for long-term success.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities and challenges in my field right now is the rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence. I see tremendous potential in using AI to transform the way we work, but it is equally important to consider how we can use the technology responsibly. Rather than replacing jobs, I believe we should focus on leveraging AI to enhance people’s capabilities, streamline processes, and make day-to-day work more efficient and productive.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are honesty and transparency. I believe in creating an environment where people feel comfortable being open about their questions, challenges, or mistakes. I would always rather have someone come to me for guidance than struggle on their own, because open communication and mutual support are essential to personal and professional growth.
