Her Story

About Alexa

I work in large-loss public adjusting on the business development side. A public adjuster is the counterpart to an insurance company’s adjuster, except we work for the policyholder, not the carrier. My role is the front end of that relationship. I meet clients after a significant property loss, build the relationship, and handle everything through contract before transferring the file to our adjusting team to manage the claim.

My background is in sales, and the move into public adjusting was unexpected but a natural fit. The skill set carried over almost entirely. I focus on commercial and large residential property claims, where the stakes are high and the relationship matters as much as the numbers. What I bring is the ability to walk into a hard situation, earn trust quickly, and represent people well at a moment when they need an advocate.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alexa

01What do you attribute your success to?

Showing up. I outwork the room. In a field where most people are waiting for deals to come to them, I go get them, and I do the follow-through that most people skip. I came up in sports and in male-dominated environments my entire career, so the pace and the pressure never threw me. I learned early that competence and consistency are what earn respect, and that has been the foundation of everything.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Own the room you’re in. Hesitation reads instantly, and people respond to certainty. The advice that stuck with me was to stop seeking permission and start acting like I already belonged, because the moment you believe it, everyone else does too.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Lead with competence and let it speak before anything else does. Know your material better than everyone around you, do the work nobody else wants to do, and carry yourself like you’ve already earned your seat. Don’t wait for mentorship that may not exist. Build your own through your peers, ask questions without apology, and move fast. This industry rewards people who learn quickly and stay level under pressure.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is also the biggest opportunity. Public adjusting is still relatively unknown to most policyholders, which means a large portion of people facing a major loss don’t realize they have an advocate available to them. That gap is where the growth is. As awareness increases, especially around large commercial and residential claims, the demand for adjusters who can combine real relationship skills with technical knowledge is only going up.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Respect and authenticity are the most important values to me. Authenticity will get you further than anything else. In this industry, you have to be genuine and own who you are, because if you have any hesitations, people will see right through it.
