Her Story
About Alexa
I have been in post-production for about 10 years. Star Wars made a big impact on me when I was younger and inspired me to work in movies. I went to school for business and then got into post-production at Company 3 where I worked on Marvel films including Guardians of the Galaxy, Eternals and Wonder Woman 2. My goal has been establishing specifications for post-production at a studio.

Ten minutes with Alexa
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute a lot of my success to all the women in the workplace that care to sit me down and show me what they do. I call them work moms. They took me under their wing and I still use their knowledge today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received in post-production is that everything always changes and is constantly improving. I need to get used to changes and embrace them rather than getting stuck on how things used to be done.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
For women entering the field, listen to everything, jot down words or things you don't understand and ask about them later. Repeat back a directive to ensure you understand. Talk to adjacent teams around you and don't get stuck on just your job. I encourage foreign exchange programs where you shadow other departments to understand why your job is important and how communication affects those teams.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of my biggest challenges is being an influential woman and Latina. My first language is very direct and I've had to learn how to ask for things in a northern hemisphere and learn the language of post as well as corporate speak. AI is also a struggle but I confront it head-on. Being that English is not my first language was an opportunity for me.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value transparency, work ethic, and the ability to be curious and not combative.
