Her Story

About Alexa

Ever since I was younger, I knew that my field would be in finance and the marketing industry. As one of my mentors taught me, money is awesome for what it can do for me, and I see so much growth and potential in using money as a tool. I've been exploring different pathways in the finance industry, including entrepreneurship with my bilingual financial literacy app that I created during my freshman and sophomore year. My overall goal is to help people with their money and how they can multiply it - to give back to my community. I'm the type of person who believes that you give back what you receive, so if I have gotten help and opportunities, I want to be that person for somebody else to help them have that step forward. My role as undergraduate finance representative means I serve as the bridge of communication between students and faculty, where students come to me with inquiries and questions, and I give them resources like I have been given before. Growing up in a bilingual school where half my day was in English and half in Spanish really shaped who I am, allowing me to see the difference in culture, language, and history. My cosmetology certification, which I earned in high school after completing over a thousand hours of hands-on work, taught me about hard work, resilience, customer service, and the business aspects of running a salon. This certification opened my eyes to the possibilities of finance in other industries beyond the New York stock market - the beauty industry is never going to end, it's only going to be growing.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Money is awesome for what it can do for me. This advice from one of my mentors really shaped my perspective on finance and helped me see money as a tool rather than just an end goal. It's guided my approach to exploring different pathways in the finance industry and my commitment to helping others understand how to use money to multiply their wealth and give back to their communities.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I believe in giving back what you receive. If I have gotten help and opportunities, I want to be that person for somebody else to help them have that step forward. My main goal is to give back to my community and help people with their money and how they can multiply it. I believe connecting with other women, strong, powerful women, is essential, especially in these times, and having that network of women that can help you grow and expand whatever industry you're in is crucial and amazing. Hard work and resilience are also core to who I am, values I developed through rigorous programs like my cosmetology certification.
