About Alexandra

Alexandra Chando is a multifaceted professional in the film industry with 26 years of experience as a filmmaker, actor, director, writer, and producer. She began her career acting professionally from a young age, including a two-year role on the soap opera As the World Turns in New York City, where she lived independently. After spending five years in New York and 12 years in Los Angeles, she returned to Austin, Texas, where she now resides and serves as Vice President of Women in Film NTV. Chando directed a feature film that achieved a theatrical release and became available on demand, earning an honorable mention for feature film at the Chelsea Film Festival in New York, which held personal significance as it premiered in the same theater she frequented during her early years in the city. She also received a Daytime Emmy nomination for her acting work, notably playing identical twins in a television show filmed in Austin. Currently, she balances developing two projects, auditioning via self-tapes, participating in weekly writing sessions, and fulfilling her board responsibilities while maintaining a separate role assisting a CEO to provide financial stability.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

If there's anything else you want to go do, go do that because it is such a grind and so hard. Persistence is key if you love it and are passionate. Learn a trade for stability because the career is unstable financially and schedule-wise. I have a job helping a CEO to pay bills while pursuing creative work.
