Her Interview
Ten minutes with Alexandra
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my ability to see potential where others may only see problems. In property management, I’ve built my career working with struggling and distressed communities, and I truly enjoy the challenge of turning them around.
I’m very hands-on, results-driven, and I believe strong leadership starts with your team. I focus on building accountability, developing my team, improving operations, and creating a better experience for our residents. I also believe in leading by example—I’m not afraid to step in, get involved, and do whatever it takes to get the property moving in the right direction.
Most importantly, I’m always looking for ways to grow. I don’t settle for “good enough.” I look at the numbers, listen to my residents and team, identify the problems, and create a plan to improve them. Seeing a struggling property become stronger, more profitable, and a place where residents are happier is what motivates me.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
“Don’t be afraid to take on the hard assignments—those are the opportunities that will grow you the most.”
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The advice I would give young women entering property management is to believe in their abilities, speak up, and never be afraid to take on challenging assignments. Difficult properties and complex situations can become some of the most valuable opportunities for growth.
Throughout my career, I’ve often chosen to work with struggling or distressed properties because I saw them as opportunities to make a meaningful impact. Those experiences challenged me to become a stronger leader, problem-solver, and mentor.
I would also encourage young women to build strong relationships, seek out mentors, and support one another. Success is not always about starting with the easiest situation. Sometimes it comes from walking into a difficult one, creating a plan, building the right team, and having the determination to turn it around. Trust your perspective, continue learning, and remember that your leadership can make a lasting difference.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in property management right now is balancing the financial performance of a property with the experience and expectations of residents. When you’re managing a struggling or distressed community, you have to address occupancy, delinquency, maintenance, curb appeal, resident satisfaction, and team performance—all at the same time.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In my work, I believe in doing the right thing even when no one is watching. I hold myself and my team accountable, but I also believe in leading with respect, communication, and empathy. Property management can be challenging, and I’ve learned that how you treat people—especially during difficult situations—can make all the difference.
Personally, I value family, meaningful relationships, honesty, and continuous growth. I believe in surrounding myself with people who inspire me to become better and in always being willing to learn. Whether it’s in my career or personal life, I want to leave people and situations better than I found them.
