About Alexandra

Alexandra Hoge is a certified Pilates instructor and teacher trainer with more than 17 years of experience helping clients improve their strength, mobility, balance, and overall well-being through the principles of classical Pilates. Currently an instructor at The Tradition Pilates Studio in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, she specializes in private and duet sessions, working primarily with older adults and individuals recovering from injuries or managing age-related mobility challenges. Her personalized approach emphasizes functional movement, injury prevention, and long-term wellness, empowering clients to maintain active, independent lifestyles while improving both their physical and emotional health. Alexandra began her professional career in theater after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Literature with a minor in French from George Washington University and an MFA in Directing from The Actors Studio Drama School before discovering her passion for Pilates and transitioning into the health and wellness field. She completed her comprehensive Pilates training at CORE Pilates, NYC and later expanded her expertise through advanced certifications, including Functional Anatomy for Movement and Injuries (FAMI) training at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Prenatal Pilates certification. In addition to teaching clients, she served as a Pilates Teacher Trainer with Equinox, mentoring and preparing future instructors while sharing her extensive knowledge of classical Pilates methodology. Committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others, Alexandra believes the true value of Pilates extends beyond exercise to improving overall quality of life. Her dedication to helping clients move with greater confidence and live healthier lives is complemented by her longstanding commitment to community service through theater education, arts programs for underserved youth, and animal welfare initiatives. Guided by compassion, continuous learning, and the courage to embrace new opportunities, she continues to inspire clients and fellow instructors alike through her expertise, encouragement, and passion for lifelong wellness.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alexandra

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to having the courage to make a meaningful career change when I realized I was no longer fulfilled. Taking a leap of faith and trusting myself to pursue a profession that aligned with my passion for helping others opened the door to a career that has been both personally and professionally rewarding. My love for Pilates and my commitment to continually improving my skills have allowed me to make a positive impact on my clients' lives.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is that if you feel stuck in a career that no longer makes you happy, it only takes one brave decision to change your direction. Trust yourself, take that first step, and allow that decision to open new opportunities rather than waiting for the perfect moment.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Believe in yourself and trust your instincts. You do not need to have every detail of your future planned before taking action. Sometimes the most important step is simply having the confidence to pursue a path that aligns with your passion and purpose. One courageous decision can completely change the course of your life and career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the greatest challenges facing the Pilates profession is the growing number of instructors and fitness programs that use the Pilates name without following its principles, which can increase the risk of client injuries. Independent instructors also face challenges related to inconsistent client schedules, fluctuating income, and limited employment benefits. At the same time, there is a tremendous opportunity to educate clients about classical Pilates and demonstrate its long-term value in improving mobility, strength, balance, injury prevention, and overall health.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Helping people improve their overall quality of life is the value that guides everything I do. I believe Pilates has the power to positively impact people physically, emotionally, and mentally, and I find great fulfillment in helping clients move better, feel stronger, and maintain their independence as they age. Beyond my professional work, I am deeply committed to compassion through animal welfare, environmental stewardship, and giving back through arts education and community service.
