Her Story

About Alexandra

I played golf in college and then spent time teaching golf, which I loved. I worked in a newsroom for a year and also trained major league baseball players to rehab from Tommy John surgeries. But I really missed golf, so I was able to come back and work in a public course. Now I'm on the private side as the General Manager and COO of the O'Donnell Golf Club in Palm Springs, California, where I've been for 2 years. This is my fourth year as a general manager overall, and I love it. My main areas of expertise are leadership, communication, and mentorship. I'm really lucky to have an awesome team here, and I love to see them growing in the industry. It's kind of a good ol' boys club, and there's not a lot of females in this industry, so it's a lot of fun to be kind of breaking down those walls a little bit.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alexandra

01What do you attribute your success to?

I'm very lucky that I had awesome parents, and they supported me in everything I did. I always wanted to grow and keep learning because of them.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

You're never gonna know everything, so don't be afraid to ask someone that might know more.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My biggest advice is that it'll be there tomorrow. Go home and spend time with your family.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In general, the biggest challenge I see is that it's kind of a good ol' boys club, and there's not a lot of females in this industry, so it's a lot of fun to be kind of breaking down those walls a little bit. But golf in general is growing. COVID was the best thing that ever happened to us, and it's a lot of fun to see it keep growing. It's a sport I love.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My family is obviously the most important thing to me. And then, time management, because you should respect the people whose time you're taking, and they should respect yours.
