About Alexandra

Alexandra Rodriguez serves as Director of Patient Experience at Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Somerset in Somerville, New Jersey. She has been in the role for approximately four and a half years, approaching five years in March. Rodriguez began her healthcare career in 2013 at Englewood Hospital in a frontline position addressing patient concerns. She advanced through roles at a larger New York City hospital system for three and a half years, NYU Langone, and White Plains Hospital, where she developed deep expertise in patient experience, patient relations, and language services. In her current position, she collaborates with corporate leaders on policies and procedures while remaining hands-on at the local site, meeting patients and families, overseeing projects, and mentoring interns. Her professional achievements include co-authoring a journal article published in the Journal of the Neuroscience Nursing, leading a quality fair project selected for the second round, and preparing to speak at the ANCC Magnet conference along with two other conferences. She is a member of the Beryl Institute Language Community Council and actively supports charitable causes such as donations to the Colon Cancer Alliance Foundation and participation in the Special Olympics plane pull event.

Ten minutes with Alexandra

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Never stop working hard and don't limit yourself. Be open to opportunities even if they scare you, trust your gut, have patience through bumps, and give yourself a chance to grow by taking leaps.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be open to any opportunities that come your way instead of settling into one thing. Never stop trying, never stop working hard, and if you have an idea or plan, keep going with it even if others doubt you. You will find people who back you up and help you succeed.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Humility, curiosity and constant learning, and compassion. Humility allows growth by being open to asking for help and different perspectives. Compassion means listening and understanding what others are going through, especially patients and families in the hospital setting.
