Her Story

About Alexandria

Alexandria Mitchell serves as a technical education content creator at Cisco, where for the past five years she has owned multiple courses, directed their creative updates, and produced multimedia training videos including storyboarding, screen captures, on-camera recording, and voiceovers. She previously worked at Best Buy, became Apple certified while there, advanced through technical support and system administration roles at Apple, and later joined Cisco. Mitchell attended ASU but dropped out to support her family after the birth of her oldest son, Maverick, and she has earned multiple Splunk certifications. She takes pride in growing the Splunk How-To YouTube channel from sporadic posts to videos with tens of thousands of views. Outside her role, Mitchell serves as global co-lead of Cisco's Inclusive Community and its Connected Disability and Neurodiversity community, facilitating training, events, and volunteer opportunities, and she participates in the Hidden Disability Sunflower Project. She attributes her success to consistently living her core values of flexibility, creativity, and care, and she advises others to ask for what they want and to learn from as many people as possible through networking.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alexandria

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success has grown out of living my values. Every time I have embraced my core values... I've had to move teams... Every time I did that, I was 100% much happier.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Ask for what you want. I grew up with divorced parents... It wasn't until I started asking for what I wanted, I got it.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Try to meet and learn from as many people as you can... networking... it's learning from people. Because those are connections that you will take forever throughout your career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is remote work, finding touch points, building connections... Knowing where to start. ...IT can feel really overwhelming. There's a lot of different niches.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Flexibility... creativity... care. The care that we bring to the work that we do, the care that we bring to the people that we're working with.
