Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alexis

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say that because I'm outspoken, and I definitely do put my neck on the line, I try… I'm always learning, right? I always, you know, pride myself on the fact that I will admit that I don't know everything, and I'll say that… I'll be the first person to admit that, but… I will know the answers to all the questions on my projects. So… I definitely put the work into my projects.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Strive to be where you want, not where you are. A college professor told me when I was down on my luck entering my senior year and still hadn't had any internships. He asked if I was putting out the person that I am today or the person that I want to become. Act like you would if you were a person of power, not a person of no power. When you ask like that towards people, people will give you the respect.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell them to keep pushing forward. And that when you think you're stuck, that's when you're breaking through. It's definitely a place where you need to keep pushing and show your worth, because other people are going to expect your hand to be held. Your hand is not held, is where you shine brightly.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge right now is the market, what the market demands, and the value of land after COVID. A lot of people are valuing their land very high. The cost of land is so high, and the cost of materials has also increased. The biggest opportunity is being able to flip land. If you're able to get a project under contract, giving and providing finished lot deals to other home builders is definitely a need niche that I'm trying to break into right now.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Respect is definitely one of them. Organization. And just thriving. If you don't thrive in your project, like, it's not going to thrive. You have to make it thrive. So, I do that at home with my kids, and everything.
