Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I don't give up. I'm pretty relentless. If I get knocked down, I might take a minute, cry a little bit, but I just gotta keep going. I can't give up. I'm very creative and artistic and just very happy. I really love what I do, and so I can bring that creative outlook and artistic value into my workspace. I'll create collage boards or picture boards, I'll paint, I'll color, I'll draw things, just to kind of bring more passion into my workspace. It really was just working my way up in this field and trying different positions to find what I liked and what I fit best at, and just learning by experience.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You really need to be passionate about wanting to help others, and just give it a chance. You'll meet so many great people, and their life experiences can teach you things and help guide you through your own life. It's very, very neat, and a niche job, but if you really dive into it, it's very rewarding. It doesn't matter how long you've been in this field, it's still hard losing patients because they become your family and your loved ones. But you know what's happening because they're giving that measure up to be on hospice, and so you know that it's coming.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Hospice is when you have given up that life-sustaining measure, and so it's always gonna be hard because I'm so excited and happy to meet new people, although I know that the end is imminent and it's coming. It could be 6 months to a year, but it is something that doesn't matter how long you've been in this field, it's still hard losing them, just because they become your family and your loved ones. You know what's happening because they're giving that measure up to be on hospice, and so you know that it's coming. That's one of the hardest things of hospice - the emotional weight of losing patients who become like family, even though you know the end is coming.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I'm very creative and artistic and just very happy. I really love what I do, and so I can bring that creative outlook and artistic value into my workspace. I'll create collage boards or picture boards, I'll paint, I'll color, I'll draw things, just to kind of bring more passion into my workspace. I'm pretty relentless and I don't give up. If I get knocked down, I might take a minute and cry a little bit, but I just gotta keep going. Being passionate about wanting to help others is essential. Meeting people and learning from their life experiences helps guide me through my own life. I love painting, especially scenics and landscaping - it's nice to just throw on some music, and if I have an image in my head, I can just put it on the canvas. I love hiking with my dog nearly every weekend. I'm very into nature, and the springtime is honestly my favorite time when all the green just makes me happy.
