Her Story

About Alexis

I have been in e-commerce for about 4 years now. Before that, I was working at Amazon for about 2 years as an Area Operations Manager in a warehouse with several hundred associates reporting to me. Prior to that I did real estate for a couple months and ran social media accounts for my college dining services. My most notable achievement was leading the closure of a standalone micro-fulfillment center, tracking inventory and closing the site as my first project management role. I graduated early from college with a major in finance and marketing and am currently self-teaching coding while enrolled in a leadership program.

Ten minutes with Alexis

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to finding a supportive boss at Albertsons who believed in me during a hiring freeze and advocated for me. Before that I wasn't loving my career path in operations or real estate, but his leadership made me want to work hard, grow, and take on more responsibility.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My boss recently told me to figure out what actually brings me joy and energy in what I'm doing. If I do something I don't like I'll improve but get stuck doing more of it, whereas leaning into what I like and becoming great at it is where my career will take me.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be afraid to speak up and make sure your voice is heard. You can't rely on someone eventually advocating for you. You have to advocate for yourself and that way you can also lead change and start advocating for other women.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Every day can be a new challenge but it's very easy to get talked over in this male-dominated field of e-commerce and operations. If you make your voice heard and work hard, leadership notices and helps you grow.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Communication and connection are very important to me in both work and personal life. It's good to speak clearly and direct but also understanding and empathetic, building a foundation for a great support system.
