Alexis Marfil is a bilingual Operations and Grants Manager with over nine years of experience designing, managing, and expanding educational enrichment programs across K–12, charter, and international school settings. She currently serves as Operations & Grant Manager at Afterschool Allstars in Los Angeles, where she oversees ASES, ELOP, and 21st Century grant-funded programs across six schools. In this role, Alexis leads a team of 30+ staff, manages multi-site operations, coordinates staff training and onboarding, and ensures high-quality program implementation aligned with state and district goals.

Throughout her career, Alexis has developed community-centered programs grounded in multilingualism, youth empowerment, and culturally responsive instruction. She has led professional development initiatives for instructors, coordinated school and community events, managed program budgets, and ensured compliance documentation is maintained to the highest standards. Prior roles include program coordination and instruction with New Economics for Women and the Girl Scouts of Northern California, where she supported students with after-school homework help, enrichment activities, coding, and extracurricular programs.

Alexis earned her B.A. in Comparative Literature with a minor in Education from the University of California, Berkeley, where she focused on bilingualism in Latin American culture. One of her proudest achievements was organizing a campus poetry workshop with Latin American poet Alejandro Jimenez to uplift multilingual voices—a project that launched the spring 2022 edition of the Comparative Literature Undergraduate Journal, where she also served as Outreach Coordinator.

Passionate about leadership with empathy and clarity, Alexis believes strong boundaries and balance are essential for cultivating high-performing teams. Outside of work, she enjoys writing, exploring the outdoors, and investing in her personal wellness.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the experiences that shaped my path early on, from organizing day care program events to teaching as a homeroom teacher in Costa Rica. Working abroad sparked my interest in supporting immigrant communities. I also owe a lot of my growth to organizations like New Economics for Women, the NorCal Girl Scouts, and trailblazing women leaders who helped me become stronger and more confident in my professional journey. One of my proudest achievements was hosting a Christmas performance for families, where children contributed their creativity and joy. I also take pride in building events from scratch that bring communities together and ensuring schools have the staffing and support they need to thrive.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to believe in yourself, truly at your core. We hear encouragement from others, but it’s that inner voice that drives you to become the inner superstar your younger self always dreamed you could be.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Storytelling is central to who I am—I maintain my own blog where I share lessons learned and hope to invest more in the self-publication of a children’s book about the City of Angels. Courage and honesty guide my work: I take risks, speak up, and strive to always be my authentic self.
