Her Interview
Ten minutes with Alexis
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would just say my dependability and adaptability. I've been in very different types of roles. The only overlap really is the connection with people. There have been things I loved in every single role that have been very different to one another. But every favorite part has something to do with people and behavior, helping in some way, connecting people in some way.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is literally just to keep moving forward. I worked for a very successful woman. She was the academic provost. And every day, she came in with a skirt and heels. But before her profession, she was in rugby, and she was like, you know, do not let anyone tell you that you can't. Especially a man, because why would a man know what a woman can and can't do? So, just ever since that, it's always stuck with me. Always push boundaries. And break the wall.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would just say, you know, keep your head up, stay confident. You know what you know. Don't let anyone else tell you what you can and can't do, or what your limits are.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I'd say the biggest challenge thus far has probably just been accepting the rejection. I feel like women, especially, are consistently being rejected in the business field, especially. So, I think in the beginning, not feeling confident was heard in my voice. ... But I learned as I went, there was an older gentleman on my team who kind of took me under his wing, gave me pointers, and with that confidence I noticed an audible shift on the other side.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value honesty and integrity. I am a rule follower, so ethics is a huge part in who I am. So, it's really just baseline honesty and sticking to how things are supposed to be done. I feel like the best version of everyone is their authentic self.
