She serves as an Adjunct Professor previously at University of Connecticut, where she helped design and teach graduate-level coursework focused on emerging technologies in insurance. Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alexis

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to strong relationship-building, community engagement, persistence, and my ability to adapt across every level of insurance distribution. I taught myself marketing, business development, and distribution strategy while building my career from the ground up. My hands-on experience as a captive agent, independent agent, broker, MGA owner, and distribution executive gave me a comprehensive understanding of the industry. My husband and Co-Founder Marvin Vaughn has been a huge part of my success as a corporate insurance and insurtech executive, he has been my executive coach through it all. It was Marvin who showed me how to leverage my background as an insurance agent in the corporate insurance world. Because of his deep expertise in identifying executive talent and God, I am considered one of the most Influential leaders in Insurtech globally. I also believe my resilience through personal and professional challenges strengthened my leadership and vision.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received came early in my journey when a State Farm agent recognized my ability to connect with people and build relationships. She encouraged me to consider a career in insurance because those interpersonal skills were valuable in the industry. That advice changed the trajectory of my life and opened the door to a meaningful career where I could create impact for families, businesses, and communities.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering the insurance and InsurTech industry to believe there is no glass ceiling. Advocate for yourself, pursue leadership opportunities, and embrace technology as a tool to strengthen—not replace—human relationships. Learn both distribution and product strategy because understanding how insurance reaches people is critical to long-term success. I also believe in creating pathways for others, especially women and single parents, because representation and mentorship matter. Build your legacy intentionally and never underestimate the power of relationships and community.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the greatest opportunities in the industry today is InsurTech innovation and new product development, particularly around underserved markets such as caregivers and families. There is tremendous potential to modernize insurance distribution, improve customer experiences, and develop more human-centered products. At the same time, one of the industry’s ongoing challenges is increasing leadership representation for women and minorities while addressing evolving workforce expectations, generational differences, and trust in technology such as AI within insurance processes.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Legacy is one of the most important values in both my work and personal life. I want my work to create meaningful impact not only for my family, but also for my community and future generations. I deeply value relationship-building, service, mentorship, mental health, and work-life harmony. I believe success should include being present for family while also pursuing ambitious professional goals. Creating opportunities for others, especially women and young professionals, and helping people feel seen, supported, and valued are central to the way I lead and live.
