Ten minutes with Alexis

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my experiences thus far and being a driven, competitive person by nature. I've been a perfectionist since I was little. I was blessed with amazing teachers who taught me how to utilize my strengths and turn weaknesses into secret weapons, and my parents who made anything I wanted to do happen and instilled that if I put my mind to something I can do it. They pushed me to succeed, celebrated my wins, and picked me up when I fell.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received is to be open-minded but also don't forget what your worth is. It's important to have a healthy balance between the two. Be open to opportunities but know when to say no if something isn't the right fit or you're too overwhelmed, because that protects your peace and worth.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women to ask questions, keep pushing forward even when discouraged, and always keep your eyes and ears open for different opportunities. Don't be afraid to raise your hand for projects you could shine in, be curious, make suggestions, and put together pitches for better processes. Employers want people who are hungry, innovative, and who really care.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The job market is volatile right now, and AI is a big challenge for paralegals who do a lot of reading. It's important to have an edge or extra skill set that sets you apart. AI is just a tool and nothing will replace human eyes on legal documents, but understand how to utilize it in a healthy way. For those curious about law school, get a master's first in something like negotiation or contract management to test if it's the right path.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Professionally, I value attention to detail, good communicators who are equally professional, and coworkers and supervisors willing to pass on the baton and give others opportunities to shine and grow. Personally, I value honesty, family as a big driving factor, having a good moral compass, being present, and practicing gratitude. Life is such a gift.
