Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alexis

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to taking initiative, embracing new challenges, and continuously seeking opportunities to grow. Starting from the bottom within the same company, I consistently volunteered for unfamiliar projects, asked thoughtful questions, built strong relationships, and brought people together to turn ideas into practical solutions. I learned to lead through action rather than waiting for formal authority, which allowed me to take ownership of projects, earn trust, and steadily advance my career.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received has come from the mentors who encouraged me to believe in my abilities and continue growing professionally. I am especially grateful to Ben Gutierrez, a sales manager at Cox Communications, and my husband, Tristan Young, for their guidance, encouragement, and support throughout my career. Their mentorship taught me the value of staying confident, embracing opportunities, and continuing to learn from every experience.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to never give up and to remain persistent, even when the path forward is challenging. I built my career from the bottom up by asking questions, seeking opportunities to learn, and staying committed to my goals. I also encourage women to get involved in employee resource groups and build meaningful professional relationships, as these connections can provide valuable support, mentorship, and opportunities for growth.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities I see right now is continuing to grow professionally while balancing the demands of working full-time and pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Business Management full-time. Managing both responsibilities has challenged me to strengthen my time management, discipline, and ability to prioritize, while also giving me the opportunity to expand my knowledge and apply what I’m learning directly to my career.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are perseverance, service, mentorship, and giving back to others. I believe in sharing my story to show others that it is possible to start from the bottom, work hard, and build a successful career. I value my involvement in employee resource groups, including the OLA ERG, which supports the Hispanic community, and the Momentum group, which focuses on mentorship and professional development. I am also passionate about giving back through my charity work, including managing social media for Hydrate Phoenix, an organization that provides free water to communities in Arizona during extreme heat. These experiences allow me to support others, create meaningful connections, and use my journey to inspire and empower those around me.
