About Alice
I started my career as a reporter at the Wall Street Journal, based in the Hong Kong Bureau, covering a range of topics mostly across Asia and Southeast Asia. From there, I was in Beijing at Tsinghua as a fellow for Brookings, where I conducted energy research in China. I then worked at Bridgewater for Ray Dalio in Connecticut, a macro hedge fund, on the research team. All of that experience led me into venture capital, which I started in 2013. Today, I manage a fund with an AUM of about $60 million. It's now a largely deployed Fund 1, so I spend a larger chunk of my time managing that portfolio, supporting the companies, and helping them think through product, hiring, marketing, and fundraising. At the early stage of a fund before it's deployed, you spend a lot of your time searching for the next investment, meeting with founders, taking pitches, and evaluating businesses. It tends to be a mix over the life cycle of the fund, depending on what stage you are in the deployment. Previously, I also helped build a new museum called the Current Museum, which was supporting art at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and art. That was a great project that I worked on up until about 2019.
