Alicia Cain
Alicia Cain is a seasoned Energy Power Scheduling Specialist at EDF Trading NA, bringing over two decades of experience in the oil and energy industry. Based in Houston, Texas, Alicia has built a strong reputation for her expertise in power scheduling, particularly within the WECC Region, and power settlements. She combines deep operational knowledge with skills in crisis management, teamwork, and leadership, making her a key contributor to EDF’s energy operations. Alicia earned her degree in Marketing and Management from the University of Houston’s C.T. Bauer College of Business, where she was actively involved in professional and cultural organizations, including Pi Sigma Epsilon, the National Association of Black Accountants, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Beginning her career in 1997 as a Lead Confirmation Analyst at Dynegy, Alicia quickly advanced to Lead West Power Scheduler and then to senior roles at Fortis Energy & Trading and EDF Trading. Since 2009, she has held her current role at EDF, where she was promoted to Scheduling Specialist in 2019. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a consistent ability to manage high-volume workloads, streamline business processes, and lead teams effectively, all while maintaining a focus on accuracy and operational excellence.
Outside of her professional life, Alicia is deeply committed to community engagement and volunteer work. She has been a team lead for Point Guard at the NCAA Final Four since 2016 and has volunteered for NFL Super Bowl events for over two decades. She is also a member of the Association of Blacks in Energy and the Gulf Coast Power Association, reflecting her dedication to both professional growth and giving back to the energy sector community.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to taking a chance on an industry completely different from my college degree and embracing the opportunities that came my way.

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to start wherever you can, learn everything you can, and let each opportunity pave the way for growth—just as I did in my 25-year career in power scheduling.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women entering this industry to take risks, stay informed, and truly understand both their company and the broader energy market.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is navigating a male-dominated industry, which makes adaptability and self-advocacy essential for success.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are spending quality time with my family and prioritizing self-care, often by enjoying sporting events.
