Her Story

About Alicia

Alicia Campanella entered the insurance industry in 2013 as a receptionist while pursuing nursing school and chose to build her career in the field. She specializes in private client insurance, managing complex high-end personal lines policies including homes, yachts, and umbrella coverage for clients with annual premiums exceeding $100,000. Campanella earned her Personalized Coverage Specialist certificate around 2013 to 2015. She credits her professional growth to supportive coworkers and a female director at her current agency who trained her extensively in the high net worth space after her earlier experience with standard personal lines policies. Currently, she is completing her bachelor's degree as a step toward attending law school, motivated by her daily work reviewing contracts and a desire to protect people in additional ways. Campanella values honesty and doing the right thing, even when difficult, and advises others to do the scary thing when pursuing new paths.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alicia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I've had really awesome coworkers that have helped me learn the business, because I was in regular personal lines, you know, like travelers and progressive policies, but then I moved to my current agency, and my director and my coworker really kind of taught me a lot about the high net worth space, so I've been trained very well. I also have a female director.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Do the scary thing. I stayed in the same industry until now, and now I'm trying to get into law school, but you know, I read contracts all the time with work, and it's not very far off, I just want to be able to protect people in other ways. It took me a long time to realize that I should have done it a long time ago, but always just do the scary thing.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The changing market. It's always, you know, the prices for insurance are always going up or down, depending on the company, and it's hard to keep up with the market trends. But our office does a really good job at that. We haven't really lost any accounts in a long time.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I really value honesty and just doing the right thing, even if it's the harder thing. I had to deal with being annoyed a lot during my divorce a few years ago, so it's really stuck to me. Just being honest and doing the right thing.
