Her Interview
Ten minutes with Alicia
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the values my father instilled in me: using my mind, applying myself, and pursuing what I am passionate about. He also taught me to never give up and continue pushing myself even when things get tough. I am self-driven and built my career from the ground up without a college degree by gaining experience, seeking mentorship, and building strong professional relationships. From my first day in the security industry, I had a clear vision for growth and told my boss that I intended to develop the skills and knowledge needed to take over his role. That determination, continuous learning, and commitment to excellence have been key factors in my professional success.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received from my father was to work hard, follow my passions, use my intelligence to create opportunities, and set ambitious goals. I apply these principles by openly communicating my goals, continuously learning, and challenging myself to grow.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is to be confident, assertive, and unafraid to pursue opportunities. Stand up for yourself, build relationships with mentors, and learn from those around you. A lack of a degree should not limit your ambition—use your voice, believe in your abilities, and take your seat at the table.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Working in a controversial environment is not something new to me and I appreciate the challenges it offers. Having previously worked in the self defense arena, AI data centers are just as much a hot button topic. I encourage others to dive into education about AI data centers and how they impact our daily lives. It isn’t all about what is in the media, there are numerous benefits to society and improving our future.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are integrity, grit, passion, using my abilities to create opportunities, and setting ambitious goals. I also believe in building a legacy through mentoring others and continuous self improvement. Our time on earth is limited, so ensuring I make an impact during my time is always number one. Aside from my career, I have always been very passionate about wildlife conservation. I believe in order to keep the world we live in for future generations, we need to give back more than we take.
